Week 4: Thursday. Class Task and Self Directed

Three photos using rule of thirds.
Place subject on one of four rule of thirds intersection lines

shutter: 1/500
ISO: 400
I love this photo of my sister hi-5ing our dog. He only knows a few tricks and Im glad i was able to capture him doing this one.
My sister is on the left vertical line, while the point where her hand and his paw meet is short of the intersecting point. Fence is also on the lower horizontal line.

shutter: 1/20
ISO: 400
Horizon is on the lower horizontal line. My friend is on the right vertical line.
We went looking for a place to take pictures of sunsets and found ourselves at mangere mountain. Mangere never looked so good.
I increased the oranges and a bit of the blues in the HSL panel in bridge.
I also darkened the shadows and blacks in the basic panel to give the silhouette look.

f/ 10
shutter: 1/30
ISO: 400
I like the contrast of my sister in blue with a blue umbrella against the greens and yellows of the backyard. I also like how random it looks- a person using an umbrella on a sunny day. I also like the vertical lines in this photo- the fence, the trees, my sister standing straight.
I cropped this so that my sister would be on the right vertical line. The fence is also on the lower horizontal line.

I increased the blue and oranges in the HSL panel, also darkened the shadows and blacks in the basic panel with all these photos of my friend.

Brightened the vibrancy a bit in bridge.

Two landscape photos placing horizon line on one of the rule of thirds lines

shutter: 15.0s
ISO: 400
I had previously tried to take this photo hand held, but the image came out blurry. I used a tripod which got everything in focus. I really like the trees and the silhouettes of them against the dark blue sky. So pretty!!
I increased the blues in bridge.

Darkened the shadows in the basic panel and increased the vibrancy just a little bit.

f/ 10
shutter: 1/40

I like how the umbrella is on the intersection point, drawing your eye to it straight away.
I also like the negative space which is created with the sky.

f/ 22
shutter: 1/40
ISO: 100

f/ 25
shutter: 1/8
ISO: 400

f/ 32

f/ 10
shutter: 1/250
ISO: 200

f/ 36

Most of these landscape and horizon photos that i took at mangere mountain have been edited in bridge to either increase the colours or decrease or increase the shadows. I also used the Lens corrections panel to straighten some of them.

  1. These are some great photos Carol and demonstrate you have a good understanding of the rule of thirds. I particularly like the one of your dog doing a high five!
