*i love this picture because of the angle it was taken at. by taking this picture from a low angle i was able to capture the branches of the tree which really does make this picture very interesting. the branches look like they are stretching out of the frame of the picture.

Week 3: Monday Research, Bernd and Hilla Becher

Bernd and Hilla Becher

http://www.artnet.com/artists/bernd-and-hilla-becher/

By taking these photos at a high vantage point, the structures of the buildings look straight and don't have that leaning look like they do when taken from a lower vantage point.
I like how they take pictures of post modern buildings, and the interesting images they create.
All the buildings are positioned right in the centre of the photo.

Week 3. Monday, Class Task and Self Directed

Low angle portrait using a shallow DOF

f/4
shutter: 1/800
ISO: 100

f/4
shutter: 1/800
ISO: 100
*what being forced to take pictures looks like.

High angle photograph using medium shutter speed

f/13
shutter: 1/160
ISO: 400
*i love how you can see the entire shadow of the tree from this higher angle.

f/13
shutter: 1/40
ISO: 400
*had to climb the apple tree to get these photos.

Someone standing still with element of movement

ISO: 100

f/13
shutter: 1/80
ISO: 100
*for these 3 pictures i decreased the saturation by -100 for colours orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, which made everything black and white and the pegs which are moving the only colour in the photo. By doing this, theres more emphasis on the movement happening in the photographs.

Architecture with a wide DOF

f/20
shutter: 1/25
ISO: 800

Candid Photo on TV mode with shutter speed of 1/100s

Formal Photo with narrow DOF

Self directed

f/4
shutter: 1/400
ISO: 6400

Candid Photos
f/4
shutter:1/80
ISO: 6400
*I love this candid photo of my family with my brother and his partner watching tv, one of my nephews on the laptop and the other one lying down and watching the tv upside down.
The photo is kind of grainy because of the high ISO, but it doesn't seem too bad with it being changed into a black and white photo in bridge.

Week 2. Thursday. Research, Seydou Keita

Seydou Keita

It looks like he shoots his photos outside, with some of the photos showing dirt floors. His photos are quite serious and formal with the subjects posing and having no expression on their faces. Reminds me of olden day portraits, where the person being photographed or painted never smiled. Black and white also gives a olden day feel to the photos also.

Week 2. Experimentation with Shutter Speed

Air Angels

f/5
Shutter: 1.3

*the motion blur of her arms look like wings, the kind that you would make in the snow. Air angels instead of snow angels.

*with a faster shutter speed, i was able to capture this photo of CJ (boy in blue shorts) jumping in the air while on defence. Didn't realise how high he could jump until i saw this photo.

ISO: 1000

f/4
Shutter:1/8
ISO: 1000
*as i was at the laundromat, i decided to take these pictures of the fan spinning at different shutter speeds. I sat directly under the fan (in the middle of the isle) and shot the photos. I really like this series of photos, and think that changing the photos to black and white make them more effective than having left them in colour.
The faster the shutter speed, the more frozen the movement of the fan was. The slower the shutter speed, the more blurred the motion of the fan is.
